MIU HDPC

Oct  08
23

We have rarely talked about a HDCP. If you must know, a HDPC is a Hybrid Dual Portable Computer. It has a mobile OS and Windows XP all working together somehow. MIU has a new HDPC which comes with an Intel Atom processor inside. I don’t exactly like how it looks like and I know I’d have problems controlling that keyboard.

This HDCP will be a GPS, PMP, e-book reader, netbook and phone all rolled into one. It has GSM, GPRS, CDMA support so you’ll get a signal almost anywhere. There’s no info on prices and availability just yet.

Motorola has come up with an Ultra Mobile Personal Computer code named VC6096 that has a wide range of features, starting with the many connectivity options, and ending with the good extras.

The device has transportation services as the main target, and comes with a fixed mount so it stays steady on a vehicle. In terms of connectivity the VC6096 boasts WiFi (802.11a/b/g), 3.5 GSM, HSDPA, WWAN, and bluetooth. Lastly, there is a GPS receiver - SiRF Star III - so the location of the vehicles is always known 24/7.

As for the hardware list, there is a processor running at 624Mhz, 128MB of RAM, 256MB of internal flash memory, a slot for SD memory cards, and 5 hot-keys. The audio department has a microphone and speakers, while the operative system is Windows Mobile 6.1

It’s only fair to look at Samsung’s competition after we’ve seen their new Q1 Ultra UMPC versions today. I am talking about Wibrain and their updated L1 UMPC.

The new L1 from Wibrain will have an Intel Atom processor and HSDPA mobile broadboand. It will come in various colors and it will have a microSD slot. You can choose between 30GB or 60GB HDD or a 64GB SSD.

Unlinke the Q1 Ultra running on Vista, the L1 will be powered by either Windows XP or a Linux OS. Battery life is said to be up to 6 hours of browsing although that’s not clearly known yet.

The L1 from Wibrain should be available sometime in October. Availability in the USA has been confirmed, but there aren’t any prices for it just yet.

This isn’t a next generation Q1 Ultra here but we do have two new UMPC versions from Samsung. Released today, the Q1U-CMXP has an HSDPA 3G integrated cellular modem , and the Q1UP-V which is an Ultra Premium Q1 with preinstalled Vista Business. I understand the need for new. I don’t understand the need for Vista.

Besides that, there are lots of connectivity options available: 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, Ethernet and a WWAN modem that connects to the AT&T Broadband Connect network.

The new Samsung versions will sell for $1,499 and $1,449. Apparently the 3G version will cost more than the Vista version.

A 5.6 mini-laptop is what Toshiba has in mind. Isn’t that really to small. Are we going to transform it into a phone? What will this netbook from Toshiba offer? Here it is:

a 5.6″ touch screen display
the Microsoft Vista operating system
a 64GB SSD
a GPS chipset
an Intel Atom processor

Well let the prices roll, Toshiba! Let us see if you can make it in this business!
