On top of the recently launched GPSMap 640 for road and sea, there are two new models from Garmin: GPSMap 695 and 696. The two new GPS systems can already be bought and have a price tag of $2,700 and $3,300.

Both systems have a 7-inch screen that can be read even on the sunlight, which means that you can easily use it during the sunny days or on the dark nights.

Garmin GPSMap 696

Considered the flagship GPS system for aviation, it boasts XM radio and XM WS Satellite Weather that only works on the US. This functionality is able to provide plenty of weather information related to aviation, such as terminal aerodrome forecasts, temporary flight restrictions, lightnings, winds, turbulence, and other details.

Garmin GPSMap 695

Pretty similar to the smaller-brother 696, but it doesn’t come with a GXM 40 smart antenna.

Garmin 265T and 265 TW

Garmin already has plans to start selling the new 265T and 265TW GPS devices, and for now you can catch them online at GPSNow. While the 265WT has a price tag of $350, his small brother is cheaper and costs $300.

The main difference between each other is the display size. Obviously, the most expensive GPS has a bigger screen that measures 4.3-inches and goes straight to the widescreen category. In the meanwhile, the cheaper system comes with a 3.5-inch display.

Besides the display screen, all the other specifications are the same – which means that you get turn-by-turn directions in form of a male/female voice, hands-free calling so you don’t have any accidents on the road caused by speaking and driving at the same time, preloaded maps by Garmin’s nüMaps Guarantee  which include more than 6 millions points-of-interest, and much more.

A detail that makes the Garmin nuvi 265T and 265WT appealing for everyone is the “Where Am I?” function, so you can always know your location, be it on foot or car.

Like the rest of the nüvi 2×5 series it includes new appealing features including: HotFix, Garmin Connect Photos, digital elevation maps, automatic time zone updates and smoother map updates.

A GPS that does it all? Well the new Garmin Nuvi 500 is a decent candidate. No matter if you are traveling or just enjoying a relaxing walk in the park, the Nuvi 500 will deliver what’s expected of a GPS device. It has routing capabilities, improved mapping and water proof hardware to brag about.

Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales says:

This multi-mode nüvi is the ultimate device for those seeking portable navigation in the car and in the great outdoors. This product allows us to combine features from several of our most popular automotive and outdoor navigators into one compact unit. From weekend trips to the lake, to a hike around the trail, nüvi 500 is ideal for people seeking automotive and recreational navigation in one dynamic device.

Whenever you exit your vehicle, change your mode to anything else. You will still be able to monitor accurate location details.

The Nuvi 500 will offer you a 3.5 inch water proof screen, a compass page, a track log and a removable, rechargeable battery for longer out doors activities. The “Where Am I?” feature will always show you the current location while the Garmin Connect Photos will let you choose between millions of geo located photos from Google’s Panoramio.

BlueChart® g2 Vision, and Inland Lake Vision will help you a lot if you are traveling by sea. You will get specific details about pot soundings, intertidal zones, wrecks, port plans, restricted areas and more.

For more driving fun, the historic Route 66 map guide will show you specific sites and memorable places to stop in. Preloaded with topographic maps of the 48 US states, Hawaii and Puerto Rico the 500 version is quite a catch. There’s also a 550 version which has enhanced street coverage in the USA or Canada. The European market will receive a scooter GPS for now which will be available as an extra accessory in other markets too.

Nokia 500 Auto Nav

Here’s something we don’t get to see everyday. Sure we have so many powerful navigation devices to count on when it comes to GPS navigation but why not try a Nokia navigation device like the Nokia 500 Auto Nav.Here’s what you will basically find on a Nokia 500 Auto Nav:

  • 4.3 inch touch screen
  • SD card slot
  • loudspeaker
  • microphone
  • 3.5mm audio jack
  • miniUSB port/charger connector
  • built-in FM transmitter
  • Bluetooth.

This satellite navigation system works partially as a phone. All you have to do is connect it to a handset via Bluetooth and make calls if you want to. Although I wouldn’t want to connect to Bluetooth via a phone when I could simply do the whole calling thing from the phone itself.

Check out the Sanyo Gorilla Navigation Device which features the first portable car navigation device internally equipped with a terrestrial digital tuner (Seg-12 + Seg-1), enhancing portability and eliminating the need for unsightly wires normally required to connect a separate external tuner.

The new Gorilla is designed to double as a terrestrial digital television inside the home or elsewhere. It is also equipped with a 30GB HDD and automatically converts from its Seg-12 tuner, used when image quality is good – even reproducing high-definition programs at standard quality – to a Seg-1 tuner in locations where the signal is weak, and back again, maximizing digital broadcast reception.

Other features include an expansive 8-inch touch-screen TFT-LCD and a resolution of 336,960 pixels. It measures just 38mm in thickness, 121mm in height and 206.8mm in width, weighing in at just 950 grams.

The company plans initial production of 5,000 units, and will sell the Gorilla NV-HD880FT at a suggested retail price of 225,750 yen.
