Moving on to compact cameras now, we have the G10, the flagship of the Canon PowerShot lineup. Here are its specs:PowerShot G10

Next we have the PowerShot SX10 IS, which is the replacement for the PowerShot S5. There was another replacement for the S5 announced today — the CMOS-based S1X IS — but it appears that it’s not destined for our shores. Here are the details on the camera were are getting, the SX10:

  • F2.8-5.7, 20X optical zoom lens, equivalent to 28 - 560 mm
    • Lens uses new “voice coil motor” for increased AF speed and less motor noise
  • Optical image stabilization
  • Digic 4 image processor
  • Flip-out, rotating 2.5″ LCD display with 230,000 pixels + electronic viewfinder
  • Full manual controls + numerous scene modes
  • New Servo AF mode (also found on the G10) for tracking a moving subject
  • Same Intelligent Contrast Control and Face Detection features as the G10
  • Records movies at 640 x 480 (30 fps) with stereo sound recording using H.264 codec
    • Zoom lens can be used while recording
  • SD/SDHC/MMC/MMCplus/HC MMCplus card slot
  • Uses four AA batteries; 600 shots per charge with NiMH cells
  • Ships in late October for $399

New ! Canon Digital IXUS 980 IS and Digital IXUS 870 IS

Last, but not least, we have two ultra-compact Digital ELPHs. The SD880/Ixus 870IS features a wide-angle lens and a large LCD, while the SD990 trades those for a whopping 14.7 Megapixel CCD. Here’s more:

New ! Casio Exilim EX-FH20

Casio today introduced a new ultra high performance super-zoom camera. The Exilim EX-FH20 is a smaller version of the EX-F1 (which I could never seem to get my hands on), and it’s continuous shooting mode can take 7 Megapixel photos at an unbelievable 40 frames/second. Here’s what else it can do:

  • 9.1 effective Megapixel CMOS sensor
  • F2.8-4.5, 20X optical zoom lens, equivalent to 26 - 520 mm
  • Sensor-shift image stabilization
  • 3-inch LCD display with 230,400 pixels + electronic viewfinder (201k pixels)
  • Can shoot continuously at 40 frames/second (at 7 Megapixel) for up to 40 shots; a precapture mode is also available, which saves the 40 images buffered before you take your finger off the shutter release
  • Full manual controls + 18 scene modes
  • RAW (DNG) image format supported
  • High Speed Anti-Shake mode “automatically synthesizes multiple images captured during high speed shooting” to reduce blur; a High Speed Night Scene feature works in the same way
  • Can record movies at 1280 x 720 (30 fps) with sound; by lowering resolution, user can achieve frame rates as high as 1000 fps (though that’s at 224 x 56)
  • 31.9MB onboard memory + SD/SDHC/MMC/MMCplus card slot
  • Uses four AA batteries; 400 shots per charge using NiMH cells

HTC Touch 3G

What a day it was today for HTC! We’ve seen the HTC Touch Diamond get a lighter color, we’ve seen the HTC Touch HD and HTC Touch Viva/Opal get released and now we’re going to take a look at the HTC Touch 3G. The handset is quite promising although the Touch HD would by my choice of the day.
