Next, we have two new Stylus models: one “regular” and one “everything-proof”. Both cameras (but especially the Stylus 1040) appear to be — ahem — “inspired” by Sony’s T-series cameras, right down to the sliding lens cover. The Stylus 1050SW does have a pretty neat new “tap” feature that I’ll mention below. Here are all the details:

Stylus 1040
- 10.1 effective Megapixel CCD
- F3.5-5.0, 3X optical zoom lens, equivalent to 38 - 114 mm
- 2.7″ LCD display with 230,000 pixels
- Ultra-slim body (less than 0.7 inches thick) comes in silver and black
- Point-and-shoot operation; new Intelligent Auto Mode selects a scene mode for you
- Same face detection, Shadow Adjustment, and Perfect Shot Preview features as the SP-565
- In-camera panorama stitching
- VGA movie mode with sound
- 48MB onboard memory + xD Picture Card slot; microSD adapter also included
- Uses LI-42B lithium-ion battery; 180 shots per charge
- Shipping in October for $199

Stylus 1050SW changes :
- Ultra-rugged body is waterproof to 10 feet, shockproof from 5 feet, and freezeproof to 14F/-10C
- Comes in silver, black, blue, and champagne (gold)
- Unique “tap control” lets you control commonly used camera functions by “tapping” on the sides of the camera; comes in handy when you’re wearing gloves!
- LED illuminator can be used to brighten up the scene
- 200 shots per charge (using same battery)
- Priced at $299
