The COOLPIX S700 delivers photographic performance that exceeds expectations of the smallest body among competing compact digital cameras*. Imaging power begins with a full 12.1 effective megapixels of sharp resolution from the new 1/1.72-inch CCD image sensor and precision optics of a 3x Zoom-NIKKOR lens. Completing the set is a new digital image processing engine that not only delivers the high performance to reproduce these high-resolution images with clarity and true-to-life colour, but also to realise delightfully fast camera response.

The stylish contours and fine finish of the aluminum body reflects a true high performance camera. The COOLPIX S700 powers up within 0.9 seconds and its practically imperceptible shutter release time lag is 0.005 seconds or less.

Quality operation and controls receive as much attention. The 2.7-inch LCD monitor offers a bright and large image, even when out in the sun. The surrounding large control buttons and the user-friendly rotary multi selector are carefully positioned to provide intuitive operation.

The COOLPIX S510 teams 8.1 effective megapixels of sharp resolution with the precision optics of its 3x Zoom-NIKKOR lens and a new digital image-processing engine that delivers a fast response and images that boast true-to-life colour. Extended light sensitivity up to ISO 2000 prevents blurred shots when shooting in lower light, or when capturing fast-moving subjects.

Quality materials and craftsmanship have created an elegant design housed in a stainless steel body. The solid metallic feel and a reassuringly firm hold immediately convey the functional beauty and classic camera appeal of the most compact digital camera among competing models*. The same dedication to engineering excellence is also found in the slim design of the Zoom- NIKKOR lens and its image-stabilising optical lens shift VR (Vibration Reduction) unit. In some regions, the COOLPIX S510 will be available in a choice of Silver, Pink and Urban Black body colours.

The S510 delivers the world’s fastest response**, boasting a power-up time of 0.7 seconds**, a practically imperceptible shutter release time lag of 0.005 seconds or less** and high-speed auto focus performance. In addition, a new image processing engine actualises faster and greatly improved Face-Priority AF.

New ! Casio V8 and Z1080

Casio has unveiled two new digital cameras. The Exilim EX-V8 offers a 7x zoomin an ultracompact shell; the EX-Z1080 features the highest ISO sensitivity we’ve seen yet on a Casio camera.

The Exilim EX-V8 replaces the EX-V7 as Casio’s higher-zoom camera. The 8-megapixel V8 keeps its predecessor’s 7x zoom, 38mm- to 226mm-equivalent, f/3.4 to 5.3 lens, giving it the highest zoom power of the current crop of Exilims. Like the V7, the V8 uses sensor-shift image stabilization to help reduce blur when using the zoom, and a completely internal lens mechanism to maintain the camera’s slim profile no matter in what position the lens rests. A sliding lens cover helps protect the lens when the camera isn’t in use, and gives it a bit of Sony Cyber-shot T-series style. With a different sensor and Casio’s new Exilim Engine 2.0, hopefully this new camera will solve the picture quality issues we had with the V7. Unfortunately, it still uses its predecessor’s slow lens, leaving at least one of our complaints still on the table.

Though it keeps the Z1050’s 10-megapixel resolution and 38mm- to 114mm-equivalent, f/2.8 to 5.1 lens, the Exilim EX-Z1080 introduces a few new features that its predecessor lacks. The Z1080 can reach up to ISO 6,400, offering much more flexibility when shooting high-speed or poorly lit subjects. Of course, higher sensitivity almost always means higher noise, and we’ll have to see the camera for ourselves before we can tell just how much grain this high-ISO setting will produce. Like the V8, the Z1080 also uses Casio’s Exilim Engine 2.0 image processor.

Besides the new image processor, both cameras also feature the same YouTube Capture modes first seen on the Z77 and S880. It’s just a fancy name for a YouTube-compatible, 30fps VGA movie mode, but the included YouTube Uploader software makes posting video clips a bit easier.

The Casio Exilim EX-Z1080 and V8 ship this September with suggested retail prices of $280 and $330, respectively. The Z1080 will be available in gray, black, blue, and pink, while the V8 will come only in silver.
