Mi cards - A New Memory Standard -

Jun  07

The MMCA (the Multimedia Card Association, of course) has recently approved a new standard of memory card to join the litany of already existing memory card formats that justify the purchase of 52-in-one memory card readers. The new cards, called miCards, are able to interface with both MMC and USB, which is certainly useful. Initial capacity will be 8 gigs, with a maximum capacity of over 2 terabytes, and initial transfer speeds of 480mbps. Most MMC cards are compatible with SD slots, and the USB connectivity is a welcome feature (along with the speed and capacity, of course). It only remains to be seen how widely hardware manufacturers (as opposed to memory card manufacturers) choose to adopt the standard, which should make its first appearance toward the end of this year.

Nikon 360 Degrees Digital Camera

A panoramic view is ‘an unbroken view of an entire surrounding area’. Often, this means one has to turn around 360 degrees, to receive this unbroken view. As we translate this to an image captured in print, the concept of Nikon 360 is the solution. Based on an ergonomic cylindrical form lens, the 360 is a camera that allows you take an all-round picture. An angle indicator provides a gauge on the direction of the rotating head and is also an additional detail to provide the camera with a stronger and steadier feel while in operation. A built-in inclinometer indicates the horizontality of position prior to execution. The 360 is designed with much emphasis on the user interface, with the main operating function designed as a touch sensor, thereby maintaining a flushed surface on the exterior. 360 is an innovation that captures all that meets the eye, and more.

a YOYO Phone ? by NEC

This has to be one of the most unique mobile phone design concepts in ages. Forget the sliders, clamshells, and candybar phones - the Yoyo form factor wants to make its way into your hands.

The name of the phone comes from its shape; it looks like a yoyo. It even allows you to wrap your headphone wires around the inner housing of the handset - just like you’d do with the string of a real yoyo.

The Yoyo phone was designed for NEC by US designer Shaik Ridzwan. Right now it’s just a concept, but who knows, maybe one day they’ll actually manufacture it.
